I used to be in this ska punk band based out of boston. It was an awesome time, and I wouldn't trade my time with them for anything. But when I quit school and moved back to my Dad's house, I was suddenly about a hundred miles farther away from Boston. The time and cost of the commute to Boston twice a week was weighing heavily on me, and the offer of a management position at my job did the same. This song is mostly about temporarily liberating myself from the uncontrollable momentum of punk rock to take care of myself for once. And at the same time, it's about hoping that someday we'll find a comfortable balance between the two.
lyrics
After work, I took the Mass Pike from Westfield to Allston. Around 12:30, it was right in the middle of the day. I spent five dollars and ten cents on tolls, ten dollars on gas, and that was only one way. But I got to see my friends. I got to go play with my band. All that was missing was the hope that this would never have to end.
But unfortunately, life comes first and when we try, try, try the same way, then we still fail. But I believe that someday, we can find another way to live the way we'd like. I believe it.
It's what I'm waiting for. It's what I'm counting on. We've been waiting, waiting, waiting for our rocket to come.
No more cages for me. This is self-liberation, I declare myself free.
